A Type 56 Charter is one that has been approved by CDE to function as its own LEA (District) for Special Ed purposes.  These Charter Districts/Schools are contracted to one specific SELPA at a time, however they may change SELPAs periodically.

Students attending these schools have specifically different reporting requirements pertaining to District of Special Ed Accountability (District of Residence) and Reporting LEA (District of Service).  It important to make sure you do not label your traditional Type 55 Charters as Type 56, and that students attending charter schools have the correct School Type on their student record.

If you are unsure of the type of school you have, consult with your SELPA director.
